Well, we were victims of the dot.com fallout when revenue from advertisers plummeted to perhaps 5% of what they were merely two years earlier, and, as a result, the ezine has not been sent out for a long long time. Until February 2002, I had kept the publication going by working on it voluntarily, but the time came when I couldn't afford to spend a good 40-odd hours a month keeping a publication alive which was not generating me any returns whatsoever. I don't have any other sources of income. Hence I've spent the last few years working on more commercial projects, putting my passion for books to one side while I sold DVDs, health products and other inane products. The purpose of this email is to inform you that the 1Lit.com ezine will sadly pass into the annals of history. I will not be sending out any more newsletters under the 1Lit brand. But... don't be too despondent. As Richard Bach wrote "Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends". The publication will be back under a new brand! Having made a reasonable sum from my commercial sites, I bought the domain name Azam.com from a Canadian corporation for a hefty sum and will be using that to launch a revamped ezine in the summer of 2006. Why Azam.com you may be asking? Because, aside from being my surname, the Azam.com domain name is easier to work with than 1Lit.com. People kept misspelling 1Lit.com: I would often get letters addressed to wonlit.com, ilit.com, llit.com, 1-lit.com. I am going to spend the next six months continuing to focus on my commercial websites, try to sell some of them if possible, and to set the others up so they work on autopilot as much as possible. I will be recruiting more stuff to manage them. But, as soon as things are in order, I will return to my first online love, this ezine. Godwillingly, from next summer onwards, you will regularly receive a publication as good as 1Lit was in its heydey in 1999 to 2002. So, I bid a sad farewell to the 50,000 subscribers of 1Lit. You will be sent the first edition of the Azam.com ezine in the summer of 2006 (and will, of course, have the chance to easily unsubscribe to it). Over... but not out.
